Within that sea of gray and all of those circles, arrows and asterisks in the photo to the left lies the core values of my business…and more importantly, me.
Those four words scribbled in red…
Family.
Balance.
Integrity.
Purpose.
These are the core values I live by every day.
Thanks to my coaches Jonathan Lautermilch and Marc Zalmanoff for forcing me to get crystal clear on them. Otherwise, it’s impossible to get laser focused on how to lead my life and run my business.
I circled those words at a time when I was less sure about what I stood for than I imagined. I thought I stood for a lot of things, but as the saying goes – jack of all trades, master of none.
My mind was cluttered and unorganized like all those circles and arrows and asterisks. I had to take stock of myself, and what I’m all about. I had to get specific and focused.
Searching deep within my core…values
So…why did I choose those four as my core values.
Because I had to work on all of those the most in my life.
I needed BALANCE, because for more than two decades work came first. I thought I was doing right by my family by putting a roof over their head, putting food on the table and paying bills.
But my FAMILY needed more of me and my time. I have been focused on the business, especially in this past year. But I continue to work on balancing my time.
Then there’s INTEGRITY – doing what I say I’m going to do. In the business world, if you don’t have that, you don’t have a chance.
Same goes for PURPOSE. If you aren’t sure why you’re doing anything, especially when it comes to serving others, you’ll fall short of making a true impact on peoples’ lives.
It took time, and it’s still a work in progress.
But this cluttered list aside, my future is clear.
